The parish church of Saint Peter, whose tower is commonly known as "Alter Peter" - Old Peter - and which is emblematic of Munich, is the oldest recorded parish church in Munich and presumably the originating point for the whole city.
To enjoy a view over the whole city centre from the tower of the parish church of Saint Peter, you have to climb 299 stiars.. But the effort definitily pays off. The view is amazing, on good days is it possible to see the Alps.
Already in the 11.century there was a church on the Petersbergl - during the centuries the church has been rebuilt and expanded.
That is the reason for all the different styles of the art works, which can be seen inside the church. For example the gilded altar piece from the 18. century or the extensive ceiling frescos. Around the church's nave there are the Marienplatz, the Victuals Market and the Rindermarket.
