The Starnberger sea is about 25 km far away from Munich and is the fifth biggest sea in Germany. It is the nearest sea to Munich and the starnberger sea is the Munichs' most popular recreational area.
Until 1962 the Starnberger sea was called Würmsee (after the small river, which leaves the sea in northern direction).
But its uniqueness is based on the unsolved death of King Ludwig 2. and Doctor Dr.Gudden in 1886 in this sea. A cross (made out of wood) at the east riverside near "Schloß Berg" refers to his death place.
